What Birdcall Is This?

I’m sitting here in Western Pennsylvania this morning, in the woods, and out my window, i’m hearing a bird that keeps making the exact same call….

It’s 3 notes in an upward ascending order…and he repeats the 3 note pattern 5 times…everytime 5 cycles of the 3 note pattern….but every single time, the LAST note, of the LAST cycle, is one half-note lower than the last note of all the other cycles.

What is this bird?

~I have heard that in the woods a couple of time when I was camping…though I live in the hot deserts of Phoenix (ugh) I go camping in the woods a lot with my boyfriend. They seem to love quiet places and high trees with moss and lichen surrounding them…this one is tough…I am going to have to look in my book!

~This bird is not a Bob White…here is a description of it’s voice: Male song, given from fence or a low branch, a strong, clear, whistled pup WAAAYK (”bob WHITE”); often imitated by Starlings, Mockingbirds, and Others. Also a loud, harsh quaysh, softer whistle calls such as koilee, and clucking sounds.

~It may be a Virginia wail: here is a description of it’s voice: A weezy, pig-like descending and usually accelerating series of grunts.

~I’m sorry, but I have looked up everything I can! ~Aspen~
